Alberta's casino hotels, reviewed
Last revised · facts verified
Alberta's pair of big casino resorts have a lot in common. Each is owned by a First Nation, each sits on the fringe of a major city, and each draws its crowd from that city: Grey Eagle, on Tsuut'ina Nation land, from Calgary; River Cree, on Enoch Cree Nation land, from Edmonton. You can play at 18 here, and AGLC is the regulator.

River Cree Resort & Casino
Edmonton's western edge, on Enoch Cree Nation land, is home to a 249-room hotel with an unusual line-up: one of Alberta's largest casinos, Canada's first Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen, two NHL-size rinks and a free shuttle to West Edmonton Mall. An 18-storey tower is rising on site.
Grey Eagle Resort & Casino
On Calgary's south-west edge, the Tsuut'ina Nation owns and operates Grey Eagle, whose 178-room hotel opened in 2014. Certain rooms face the Rockies, the Event Centre seats 2,500 and attracts good acts, and Little Chief is one of the stronger casino kitchens in the West. While renovations continue into 2027, the pool stays closed.
