Grey Eagle Resort & Casino: our review
Last revised · facts verified
On Calgary's south-west edge, the Tsuut'ina Nation owns and operates Grey Eagle, whose 178-room hotel opened in 2014. Certain rooms face the Rockies, the Event Centre seats 2,500 and attracts good acts, and Little Chief is one of the stronger casino kitchens in the West. While renovations continue into 2027, the pool stays closed.
Go if: Concerts in Calgary, and a base camp for Kananaskis and Banff.
Think twice if: Laps in a pool are essential; it's shut for renovation.
Calgary's own casino resort
Grey Eagle belongs to, and is operated by, the Tsuut'ina Nation. Its casino opened in 2007; the hotel, six storeys and 178 rooms, had its grand opening on May 2, 2014. Downtown Calgary is a few minutes away and Kananaskis Country about half an hour, a pairing no other casino hotel in our guide can offer.
Rooms
The resort says a share of its rooms faces west, toward the Rockies, which show up on clear days; the remainder face the city. Pick from Standard King, Premier King or Standard Two Queen (the one the hotel suggests for families), or book the King Suite or the Presidential Suite. According to the hotel, rooms and suites have been newly renovated.
Casino
The floor measures 84,000 sq ft and holds 32 tables and more than 975 slots. You can play slots 24 hours a day; tables open at 10 am and close at 3 am. Blackjack, baccarat and more are offered in high-limit rooms. Alberta sets the age at 18. The casino says renovations will carry on in stages across 2026–2027. Loyalty points go on Winner's Edge, the province-wide card.
Concerts
All ages are welcome at the 2,500-seat Event Centre. In 2024 it gained an L-Acoustics sound system and picked up Venue/Presenter of the Year at that year's YYC Music Awards. If you're coming for a show, the Concert Night Getaway combines a room and two tickets for $329 to $369.
Food
Little Chief combines modern technique with Indigenous tradition, and both Avenue Magazine and the Calgary Herald have featured it. The 18+ Buffet has nightly features through December 31, 2026, and closes in January 2027 for renovation. Also on site: Blaze Bar & Grill; the Eagle Bar, right on the gaming floor; the Stage Bar, with free entertainment at weekends; and Eagle Street Eats, a food truck selling Indian tacos, bannock and chili, and Saskatoon berry dumplings.
Swimming
The pool is closed because of the casino renovation. As a substitute, hotel guests get free entry to two City of Calgary pools, Glenmore and Killarney. The 24-hour fitness centre, the sauna and the outdoor hot tub are all open.
More to do
Through Grey Eagle Cultural Tours you can visit the Tsuut'ina Museum or take a Buffalo Paddock Tour on Tsuut'ina Nation. The drive to Calgary International Airport takes 30 to 45 minutes, and Banff is about an hour. Parking costs nothing, and pets are accommodated on a dedicated floor.
Our take
For a Rockies trip or a Calgary concert, no casino hotel does it better. Just bring a swimsuit for the hot tub, not for laps, until the renovation is done.
