Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto: our review

Last revised · facts verified

The resort that replaced Casino Woodbine opened in 2023 right beside the racetrack, and it's built big: 400 rooms, a 5,000-capacity theatre, a pool with sauna and steam, free parking and a free shuttle from Pearson. Its operator says no Canadian casino has more slot machines.

Go if: Fly-in stays, concerts at a 5,000-capacity theatre, and anyone chasing the country's biggest slot selection.
Think twice if: You'd like to look at more than a racetrack and an edge-of-city skyline, or need a standard room over 388 sq ft.

From Casino Woodbine to a full resort

The old Casino Woodbine came back in 2023 as Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, opening in two steps: phase one of the casino on June 20, then The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on August 1. It's in Etobicoke, a short drive from Pearson, with Woodbine Racetrack next door, and its pitch is sheer size. According to the operator, you won't find a bigger choice of slots anywhere in Canada.

Rooms and suites

All 400 rooms opened new. There are four standard categories, every one of them 388 sq ft: Premium King, Premium Two Queen, and the Racetrack King and Racetrack Two Queen, whose windows face the track. Destination Toronto reckons almost half of the building looks that way. Accessible rooms add grab bars and roll-in showers 60 inches across. Need more room? Corner Suites put a queen sofa bed beside the king, and 2-Bedroom Suites take six; each has a microwave and fridge. Throughout you'll find bathrobes, blackout curtains, NEST bath products, a coffee maker and a mini fridge.

The guest who books must be 19 or older. Kids are welcome to stay in the room, though not in the 19+ parts of the resort. Rooms are available from 4 pm, and you're expected out by 11 am.

Gaming

At opening in 2023, Global News counted 4,800 slots and 145 tables. In the high-limit area alone there are over 210 slots, upwards of 25 live tables and 15 multi-game terminals for electronic poker and blackjack. The casino never closes, and nor does the hotel. Anyone aged 19 or over can join Great Canadian Rewards without charge.

The Theatre and Woodbine

Concerts in The Theatre draw crowds of up to 5,000; for gala dinners it seats more than 1,500. Tickets are sold exclusively via Ticketmaster. Next door at Woodbine, on most race days, admission and parking are both free, and the fall meet's schedule ran until November 29, 2026.

Food

The steakhouse, Copperhorn, is the special-occasion choice, set directly on the casino floor. For a pint, Casual is a gastropub pouring plenty of local craft beer. Asian cooking comes from Chopsticks Noodlehouse and from Lobster Legend Noodle Bar, whose menu blends Teochew and Western dishes, and Pizzaiolo turns out gourmet pies. The Food Hall gathers Noodlebox, Tim Hortons and Mary Brown's Express. Cocktails are at Northern Lights Bar (19+), and families can grab something from the all-ages Lobby Bar Grab & Go.

Wellness

Facilities listed by the hotel: pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and gym. On crowded days the front desk may ask guests to sign up for a time at the pool.

Shuttle, parking, pets

The complimentary Pearson shuttle runs in two daily windows, 6 am to noon and 3 pm to 9 pm; at Terminal 1 look for post F3 on the arrivals level, and at Terminal 3 for the stop near gates B and G. Parking yourself in the 3,800-space covered garage is free. Valet costs around $20 from Monday to Thursday and $30 from Friday to Sunday. Cats and dogs under 50 lbs, two at most, pay $49 per night with a single $49 cleaning fee on top.

A labour dispute to be aware of

Great Canadian locked out roughly 100 security officers, members of Unifor Local 1090, on July 23, 2026, and pickets have been set up at the resort since. According to an operating notice from October 2, 2026, hotel and casino alike are still open 24/7, restaurants keep their usual hours, and vehicles pass through the picket line at least once every three minutes. Check for updates before you travel.

Our take

Around Toronto, this is where we'd stay to catch a flight, see a big show or play on the widest slot floor available. Expect modern, well-equipped rooms rather than big ones; if space matters, the Corner Suite is the one to book.
